The passing of a loved one leaves a hole that can never be sufficiently filled.  Giving the loved a fit sendoff is a way to show respect and keep their memories forever.  Scattering cremated ashes is a good way to have the remains of a loved one go back to mother Earth in a way he/she would have loved. There are different ways of scattering ashes in a lawful and acceptable manner.

Scattering ashes at sea

This is a popular way to scatter remains. You can engage a burial services outfit to handle hiring of a boat and showing you what spots are allowed by law to scatter ashes.  You can scatter the ashes out in the sea or you can watch from the shore as the scattering is done. Cape Cod, MA is a good example of a place to scatter ashes or observe the rites.

You can also have the ashes scattered unattended i.e. without family members. You send the ashes to the burial services and wait for a memorial certificate confirming the scattering with a spot marked on a map.

Scattering into the wind

Basically you stand in the wind and let the ashes get carried away as they pour from the urn or from your hand. You can have a fancy urn that will shoot the ashes into the air like cannon. The best way to do this is from a high point where the wind is strong enough to project into the ocean.
