CAPTAIN CEREMONY

scattering ashes at sea ceremony

If you loved one has requested a funeral at sea as their last wish, yet you cannot attend spreading ashes ceremony or do not wish to, for whatever reason, then a Captain Ceremony is an ideal service. Your loved one will have their desires granted and receive the same respectful service as one would have at an Attended Ceremony.

Our Captain, Paul Cuoco, is a US Coastguard Licensed Master Captain and has a true passion for the water. He will bring your loved one to their final resting place at sea in a dignified manner. Along with the Captain, First Mate Greg Cuoco assists in the spreading ashes ceremony as well. Both have, over 60 years combined maritime experience navigating the waters off Cape Cod.

You don’t have to stress over the details of a large service, especially if that is not what your loved one would have wanted. Sometimes it is very difficult to say goodbye and you may not want to be there to see you loved one off to sea. For whatever the reason you may not be able to attend, a service can still take place with the help of SwanSong Burial at Sea and the Captain Ceremony.

To have the Captain ceremony performed, you only need to have your loved one’s ashes shipped or hand delivered to SwanSong Burial at Sea and we will take care of the rest. The Captain will set out in one of our vessels with your loved one’s ashes aboard. He will sail out three nautical miles off-shore and the Captain will scatter their ashes over the water. Prayers, poems or eulogies can be uttered during the ceremony if desired. The Captain will note the coordinates of your loved one’s final resting place and mail a certificate with the latitude, longitude, date and time, giving families peace of mind knowing where and when the ashes were scattered.
