Thank you for explaining that after the cremation, most families tend to keep the remains in an urn on the mantel. My sister’s husband’s family is dealing with this process right now, as they have had a death in the family and ar consider cremation. I think that they are planning on going through with that, but maybe this article would help them in some way anyway.

It makes sense that there are regulations surrounding a burial at sea, as you said. My sister has been thinking about organizing a burial at sea for her husband early in advance, since it is what he would want. I think it is great that cremation provides a wider variety of burials and traditions. You mentioned that it is one option if your wish is to be buried at sea. I always loved the view of the ocean from my parent’s house growing up, so I think that would be a lovely send off for me when my time comes.

My parents had requested that when the time came for their burials they wanted their ashes to be scattered together in the sea. Paul Cuoco was very accommodating for their final wishes. The ceremony we had planned went off without a hitch. The day was beautiful, the seas calm and a feeling of contentment overtook all of us family members. My grandchildren were able to participate (6 to 10 years). They sent their great grandparents off with love.

Thanks for the advice on how to go about scattering ashes at sea. I think having the family and friends watch from ashore would be a beautiful way to say goodbye. My husband and I have both stated that we would prefer cremation. Afterward, I think having my ashes scattered would be lovely.
